Ludlow Food Festival

Ludlow is a small pituresque market town on the Welsh borders. It's ruined castle was home Princes of Wales for many centuries - Henry VIII's brother Authur loved it so much that when he died his heart was buried there. Every September Ludlow holds its food festival (usually the second weekend - 10th-12th this year). Ludlow has a reputation as a foodies paradise and it's well deserved. Despite having a population of less that 10,000 Ludlow has 500 listed buildings and a Michelin starred restaurant. In 2009 popular TV chefs the Hairy Bikers visited Ludlow and fell in love with the vibrant town. The main part of the festival takes place within the walls of the castle, a popular location for festivals. Highlights of the festival include the sausage walk, a tour of Ludlow and surrounding areas, taking in the best butchers making the sausages for which the Marches (the Welsh border), and especially Ludlow, are justly famous.

Bromyard Folk Festival

Not the largest folk festival in the uk, but a very charming one. It attracts some big name artists such as Seth Lakeman and the atmosphere is always friendly. It's one of the cheapest festivals, with tickets from as little as £40 for the three days. Look out the the many Blackface Morris teams, a speciality of the Welsh Marches (borderlands). It's very family friendly (like all folk festivals) and there's plenty of workshops and things for children to do. This years festival takes place from the 10th-12th of september.
