From the article: Free Attractions - 50 Free Things to do in the United Kingdom
There must be loads of free things to do in the UK that are just waiting to be discovered. In these days of tight budgets and crunchy credit, most people would like to know about free activities, free museums, free samples, free things to do around the country. Maybe you already have one or two favorite free things to do. Well goodness me, don't keep them secret. Please, recommend a favorite free thing to do. Recommend Something Free
Maritime museum in greenwich
- Unfortunately it's not free anymore! Suggest the science museum in london as a replacement. (Editor's Note: Though there is an admission charge for some elements, the Maritime Galleries of the National Maritime Museum, The Queen's House, and the Royal Observatory Astronomy Centre remain completely free to everyone, every day.)

Waterloo Bridge
- Walk to the middle of Waterloo Bridge just at dusk and watch the lights come on. Stop and look around at the view of Parliament, St. Paul's, the London Eye, the Southbank and the tour boats on the river. London at that hour, from that point of view is as romantic as anything you might see in Paris. And its free.

Go to an auction
- It doesn't cost anything to go to an auction if you can resist bidding. The people watching is terrific. Most auctions at Christies and Sothebys in London are open to the public but all over the UK there are local auction houses where you can witness real Antiques Road Show action.

Sports pubs
- Lots of pubs have big flat screen televisions where you can watch football (what the Yanks call soccer) or whatever big sport is happening, for the price of a beer. And, if you don't order anything to drink, no one really notices or minds. So it's free, technically.

Wild flowers and wild berries
- It doesn't cost a penny to pull into a layby on a country road - especially in the Cotswolds - and enjoy the huge variety of wild flowers from May through the summer. The poppies are gorgeous in season. And from August through October, look for blackberries in the hedgerows and the woods just about everywhere. Try the Hungerford Forest for great blackberry picking. Or the bilberries (like blueberries) in the Peak District. Nature is surprisingly generous here.

See alpacas for free
- I just love alpacas - the animals even more than the clothes. On Saturday 24 October 2009 the Yorkshire Alpaca Group is holding its first ever alpaca show. It starts from 9am at the Thirsk Business Park, just off the A168/A19 roundabout. There should be around 150 alpacas from all over the UK. Show me a kid who can resist an alpaca and I'll show you a moody kid. I believe there will be Peruvian and British-made alpaca knitwear and alpaca hats for sale. See the alpaca, wear the sweater. Admission is free and all are welcome.

Stay dry in a library
- Being out with young children can get really expensive if it rains. Amusement arcades and cafes can cost a lot for a family of four, so we try to go into the local public library. There's usually a kids corner with lots of books they havent seen before and it costs nothing to look at the books or sit and read them to the kids. If we stay for an hour or so its probably stopped raining by then. In the summer there might be an event going on in the library if you are lucky.
