Oh it's a long long time from August to December - or from January to April - and not a long holiday weekend in sight for England and Wales. Should Britain create a new Bank Holiday? What would it celebrate and when should it be held? Propose your new holiday and tell us why. Tell Us Why
- Thank you for publishing my summary of Canada's holidays. However, I did forget to mention that January has New Year's Day. It means that every month of the year has at least one holiday, which is a really good arrangement, I think ! Carole Martyn

- In Canada and the U.S.A. the term Bank Holiday is not used; instead we have various statutory holidays throughout the entire year. February has Family Day, March has Good Friday & Easter Monday, May has Victoria Day, July has Canada Day(formerly) Dominion Day, August has Civic Holiday, September has Labour Day, October has Thanksgiving Day, November has Remembrance Day, and December Xmas Day and Boxing Day. However, we are NEVER given holidays for Royal Weddings ! Carole Martyn

- We have all our bank holidays bunched together in the summer months, from Easter through to end of August. It would be great to break up the long stretch through to Xmas with a bank holiday and I would like to see it as a 'memorial' day weekend. Shut the shops and spend a weekend at home quietly with family and friends and take some time for reflection on all those who have given so much to us over the years. Sadly, Poppy day passes by almost unnoticed now but it could be brought back to prominence and to the front of people's minds if it were made into a bank holiday. With everything going on in Afghanistan and Iraq it is time to stand back and acknowledge all those giving so much and those who went before. I know that's never going to happen in this crazy country but I can always dream.
