Guide Review - York City Center Luxury Vacation Rental at the Hop Store
The Hop Store, York is a charming and thoughtfully equipped vacation rental with views of York Minster
There’s so much to do and see in the city of York that you may not get a chance to use hotel facilities. That’s why a luxurious vacation rental apartment right in the heart of the city can make a lot of sense.
The Grade II listed, Ogleforth Brewery, now beautifully converted into apartments, is tucked away in a quiet side-road. Much of central York is pedestrianised and car parking is at a premium so the gated courtyard parking for Hop Store guests, within the ancient walls of this walkable city is a huge plus. Parking is for only one car though, so if you are traveling with another couple, plan to share the ride.
The Hop Store apartment is on the second floor (with elevator) and has a rare view to the stunning rooftop of York Minster’s 13th century octagonal Chapter House from the open-plan sitting room.
There’s history inside too - an original brewery winch/hoist has been kept as a feature in the living area. But don’t worry; the facilities are definitely 21st century, with a well-equipped kitchen and quality linens. Owners John and Angela have included hand-made furniture and artwork by Yorkshire artists in the decor.
The twin bedroom might prove a little small for travellers with huge amounts of luggage, but otherwise this is a very special and thoughtfully equipped apartment.
Shops are very close at hand, but guests will find a well filled Yorkshire hamper, with cheese, bread, cake, Yorkshire-made snacks, coffee and the famously strong Yorkshire tea, to revive them on arrival. Unlike some vacation rentals, toiletries aren’t provided though, so don’t forget your own.
