Cheese Lovers United

Every September, cheese lovers, cheese makers and loads of people just seeking a good - and tasty - time, gather on the lawns below Cardiff Castle to celebrate the variety and quality of Great British cheeses.

A few weeks earlier, cheeses from across the country are tasted and judged for the British Cheese Awards to name the best British cheeses in a variety of categories. In 2010, at least 900 cheeses were considered.

The three-day festival, which is managed by Cardiff Council and supported by the Welsh Assembly and the British Cheese Awards features:

  • masterclasses and demonstrations in four different venues
  • several different markets offering cheeses (of course), plus Best of British, a Taste of Wales and The Cook and Book Shop
  • a CAMRA Real Ale pup, The Cardiff Arms, with different styles of real ales and beers, ciders and perries
  • Live entertainment and games throughout the festival.
