Orkney marks the longest days of the year -- which can produce 18 hours of daylight there - with an arts festival that draws top performers in dance, theatre, poetry, visual art, performance art, jazz, classical and contemporary music. The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra takes part and, in 2007, violinist Viktoria Mullova and Poet Laureat Andrew Motion were among the featured artists.
