If This is a Festival, What Does it Celebrate?
I have to declare - right up front - that I dislike marketing exercises that try to pass themselves off as "festivals". I'm afraid this is one of those. The North Devon Festival, now more than 10 years old, is one of those portmanteau affairs dreamed up by local government, regional arts councils, arts and community organizations, to put a "festival" brand on a lot of disparate events and performances. Get your head past the notion that it's more of an arts marketing exercise than a festival in any recognizable sense and you could find some interesting performances and events.During the month of June, everything from hip hop, rap and breakdancing workshops to folk, jazz and classical concerts; theatre performances, dance, literary events and art exhibitions will take place across the county. Many of the events folded into this umbrella, like the three-day, free The Lynton & Lynmouth Music Festival (Llama) are festivals in their own right.
Nevertheless, the website for this so-called festival is a handy place to find out what's going on in North Devon during June - though you still have to winkle out each individual website to buy tickets and get the finer details.
