High Artistic Standards in the Highest Town in Britain

Buxton Festival is best known for its staging of rarely performed operas by major composers, staged in the perfect little gem that is Buxton Opera House. Over nearly three weeks, the festival also includes World Music, classical music, ballet, choral music and a lively literary series.

And a Lively Fringe

The Buxton Festival Fringe can include comedy, film, theatre, poetry, children’s events, magic, exhibitions and street entertainment. Fringe organizers say they welcome all genres and there’s no selection or censorship, so who knows what you’ll find?

Thirsty?

Buxton still calls itself a spa town, though bathing in the thermal springs known to the Romans is no longer possible. You can fill up your flask though, at the public well in The Crescent, close to the Tourist Information Office. Or just buy a bottle of Buxton Natural Mineral Water from a corner shop.
