How did Shakespeare and his family celebrate Christmas? Visit the Shakespeare Houses, managed by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in and around Stratford-upon-Avon, during the festive season and you might just find out.

Here's what's happening in December 2007 at the Shakespeare Houses:

  • Shakespeare's Birthplace Late night opening at Shakespeare's birthplace and shop, December 17, to from 5 8p.m. Tour the house by candlelight, enjoy carols and mulled wine. And it's free.
  • Anne Hathaway's Cottage Charles Dickens will be dropping in to help celebrate the seasonal spirit of carols, storytelling and music on December 15.
  • The Nash House plans to go all out for a Tudor-style Christmas. There will be traditional festive games, every day from 11:30a.m. to 2:30p.m. And (talk about groaning boards) see how the Tudor's laid on a feast with the Christmas feast display, from December 12 to January 3, 2010.
  • Hall's Croft Children can take a Christmas quiz and learn about the history and customs of a Tudor Christmas.
