No shophound worthy of the name should visit Yorkshire without stopping in Leeds delightful markets and shopping arcades. The city's Victorian Arcades, which make up what is known as the Victoria Quarter, are a center for luxury shopping, fashion and small, independent, interesting retailers.
The late Victorian and Edwardian arcades off Briggate follow a pattern of narrow lanes and inn yards already visible in the earliest maps of the area. They witness the explosion of creativity and optimism of the period. Neglected by the mid 20th century, they were restored in all their glory in the 1990s and are a must-visit destination in the North.
