In 1960, with the help of the BBC, Chiocchetti returned to restore his paintings. Later he came again with his wife, who embroidered altar cloths for the church she had heard so much about. Over the years, the prisoners who built the Italian chapel, and their families, have returned regularly.
Today, the Italian Chapel, maintained by a preservation committee, is a must for people who come to Orkney from all over the world.
