Pictures of The Deep - Europe's Deepest Aquarium, The Deep in East Yorkshire

The Past, Present and Future of the Earth's Oceans

By , About.com Guide

The Deep in East Yorkshire is more than an aquarium. It is a magical exploration of the world's oceans - from tropical lagoons and sunless, deep water trenches to Arctic waters teeming with specialized forms of life.

I've never been a great fan of aquaria, but as soon as I entered The Deep I was captivated. From the surreal murmur of actress Juliet Stevenson's voice, seeping out of individual "sound pods" along the entry ramp to the dazzling fractal patterns of lacy, graceful jellyfish, The Deep is endlessly fascinating.
