A Ferry Propelled by Man (or Woman) Power

Continue along Waterside, past the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, to find this unusual chain ferry across the Avon. It was built in 1937 and is the last of its kind in Britain. A handcrank turns a chain mechanism to propel it across the river. For 50 pence you can have an unusual ride and, perhaps, a chance to man the chain crank yourself.
