Most big towns and market towns have a branch of Marks & Spencer, or M&S as it is often called. For UK visitors, M&S is a good source of good quality underwear and hosiery, inexpensive shoes, slippers and nightwear. Though more fashion oriented than it used to be, M&S is still a good place to buy reasonably priced, British knitwear for men, women and children.

Look for food only branches - called M&S Simply Food - to find the makings of a picnic or a selection of very British sweets and biscuits (cookies) to take home.
