Shakespeare Installation Invites Public to Text Their Opinions

"Why?" is an interactive, digital art work created from text messages at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon until April 3.

Why?, is a kinetic spiral based on text messages. Created by Squidsoup, it is entertaining visitors to the newly refurbished Royal Shakespeare Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon until April 3, 2011.

Visitors and audience members are invited to text their thoughts and ideas about Shakespeare to a dedicated phone number. What's it all about? Is he relevant today? Should we study him? Did you have a bloody good time? Bored out of your tree?

As messages are received, they are integrated into a changing spiral design that is projected on a wall in the theater's Paccar exhibition room. The more comments that are added, the more complex the continually moving interactive, digital text display becomes. The latest text messages are shown in another projection nearby so that you can see what other people are texting.

If you'd like to add your own text message to this piece of digital art - and, perhaps try to find it in the moving digital spiral when you visit, text a message to 07781 480 190. (Callers from outside the UK should ring +44 7781 480 190.
