Althorp, Princess Diana's childhood home, also became the site of her burial in 1997. The Princess's shrine, on an island - The Round Oval - in the Althorp Estate's Oval Lake, is a quiet and peaceful spot, only open to public visits once a year, on the anniversary of Diana's death. The estate itself, including a poignant exhibition about Diana's life and work, can be visited in the summer months.
