The peloton (French for "the bunch" actually) races past an example of one of Kent's most distinctive architectural features - a converted oast house - near Horsemonden.

Oast houses were kilns used - until quite recent times - to dry hops for brewing. Nowadays most hops used in English brewing comes from abroad so many oast houses, with their distinctive, top vented conical roofs, have been converted into homes, shops, museums, farm buildings and bed and breakfasts.
