The Latest UK Hot Deals

Still Leaving Christmas to the Last Minute?

If you are still dithering about Christmas and New Year's plans, how about a total change of scene; a cozy village getaway in West Dorset, for example? Dorset Holiday Cottages may have just the thing with £100 off on late availability for Swift Cottage in Beaminster. The cottage looks recently freshened up, with a nice kitchen, pretty bathroom and charming walled garden. It has three bedrooms and sleeps six. And, if you follow Masterchef on British television, you could be in for a treat. Masterchef 2009 winner, Mat Follas, has just opened his restaurant, The Wild Garlic, in the village.

The cottage is available for the weeks beginning December 22 and 29 - so New Year's in the West Country is also a possibility, and costs £560 for each of the two weeks (£100 per week off the normal price for the holiday season). To book, visit the Dorset Coastal Cottages website and search for property number 3403, or telephone 0800 980 4070 (from outside the UK, dial +44 1929 401420).

Runnymede Hotel Break Bargain

The Runnymede Hotel in Egham, Surrey, is offering a pre-holiday refresher with savings of £60 per night. The Thames-side hotel, which has undergone refurbishment (still going on in some areas), starts at £125 per double room per night, bed&breakfast and spa (normally £185) until Dec. 20. It's close to loads of attractions, including Windsor Castle and the historic Magna Carta signing site. But be sure to ask, when booking ( online or by telephoning +44 (0)1754 220 980), how the nearly finished building works might impact on your stay.

35% Off Stately Home Stay in York

Middlethorpe Hall, a restored 17th-century stately home set in award-winning gardens, is owned by The National Trust. Surprisingly this landmark, near York Race Track on the edge of the city, is also a hotel - with all profits going to the National Trust. From Sunday-Thursday, until December 23, you can be very very grand and stay in this historic house for a historically low price. A dinner bed and breakfast stay for two is £198 (a saving of £102 on the usual price for two sharing). This pre-holiday deal also includes a 15% discount on any pre-booked Decleor treatments in the hotel spa. To book this deal, call +44 (0)800-089 3929 or visit Pride of Britain Hotels online

T.G.I.F.

Give yourself a Friday night treat at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel where luxury is on the menu along with a gourmet meal. The hotel's "Luxury for Less" Friday night package starts at £100 per person (based on two people sharing) and includes bed and breakfast as well as a three course meal in the hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant, Simon Radley at the Chester Grosvenor. Watching your weight before the festive season? No problem, you can choose a 60 minute, luxury spa treatment instead of dinner.

Chester is a great place to get in some holiday shopping. Its "Rows", medieval shopping streets on two levels, are lined with famous brands as well as stylish, local independent shops. To book this package, ring +44 (0)1244 324024, or check availability online.

The Great British Heritage Pass - Save a Bundle on Admission to Nearly Everything!

The Great British Heritage Pass, offered by VisitBritain to visitors from outside the United Kingdom, is one of the best deal's I've seen in a long time. For one flat fee -covering 4, 7, 15 or 30 days - pass holders get full admission to almost 600 different sites; family passes, for two adults and three kids under 16 are available too. Good value? Well VisitBritain compiled the cost of single adult tickets to the top 15 UK sites. The price came to £141.60. The cost of a Great British Heritage Pass for 15 days was £52 - that's a savings of £89. Even if you spread those 15 site visits over a month long pass (£70), you'd still save £71.60. That sounds like a great deal to me.
