A Special Treat for Dog Lovers
Sheep Dog Trialing is one of those English rural pursuits that only sheep farmers understand. They and real anoraks who were rivetted to their TVs in the 1980s watching "One Man and His Dog". If you enjoyed the film "Babe" with its "sheep pig", you get the idea. For three days, from August 21, 30,000 spectators are expected to show up at the Castle Hill Estate in Barnstaple, North Devon, to watch 150 sheepdogs and their handlers, from throughout the UK, compete for titles in the National Sheep Dog Trials. Alongside the dog trials, they're planning an activity arena with hourly displays and entertainment, arts and crafts stalls and a food marquee stocked with local produce. Family visitors arriving in the UK via London's Heathrow Airport, between July 1 and August 31, can take advantage of a money saving offer from Heathrow Express, the every 15 minute train service between the airport and London's Paddington Station. This summer, children between 5 and 15 years old traveling with a fare paying adult go free of charge. The offer is good for one free child's ticket for every full fare, adult ticket purchased.
