Guide Review - Lake District Hotel Review - Lyzzick Hall, Keswick in the Lake District

Boots in the entrance hall are only part of the story at Lyzzick Hall Country House Hotel. Walkers who enjoy their creature comforts are very welcome here, but so are family groups and it’s not unusual to see three generations at a breakfast table.

The atmosphere in this slightly rambling 19th century former gentleman’s residence is relaxed, but with lots of attentive staff. No scrambling for a buffet breakfast here! Guests are served at their tables, and with a pleasant smile. You may also hear a little Spanish or Portuguese spoken. The hotel's Spanish owner is very much in evidence – both in person and through the restaurant's excellent list of mostly Spanish wines.

There is an on-going program of refurbishment. It's worth asking for a room with a new bathroom, as well as a view. Situated below the 3,000 foot Skiddaw mountain, Lyzzick Hall offers some great views across the Derwent valley.

Those views, of course, are only available on a clear day. The notorious Lake District weather could tempt you to take your exercise in the indoor heated swimming pool. But if the day is dry, try a gentle walk along the River Derwent towards the charming town of Keswick, less than two miles away. But do get back in time for supper.
