A Special Event for Single Malt Scotch Whisky Connoisseurs
At the Glenfiddich Distillery in Speyside, A 50-Year-Old Whisky is Unveiled

By , About.com Guide

In the summer of 2009, Glenfiddich, launched a 50 year old whisky for the first time since 1991. Fifty people from around the world were invited to the distillery in Dufftown, in Scotland, to taste it. I was lucky enough to be one of them.

On the next few pages, I hope to give you some idea of the festivities surrounding the launch of such a rare spirit (only 50 bottles will be released annually, for the next nine years).

Although this was a once in a lifetime experience, anyone can take a free tour of the Glenfiddich distillery, as well as many others on Speyside, to see how Scotch whisky is made and to sample some 12 year old Scotch.
