The Arts and Crafts Movement was influenced by Gothic and Medieval styles and had a strong, handcrafted element. All of this is apparent the William Morris's only commissioned house, The Red House.

The building is made of locally manufactured bricks and topped with a steep, medieval-style tiled roof. Visitors usually notice that there are many different kinds of windows -- all of which contribute to a medieval, handcrafted appeal.
