A Chance to See the Process of Restoration at The Red House

Given its age, the Red House was owned remarkably few families after Morris moved. The most recent owners held the house for about 50 years and tried to maintain many of the original features, including some large items of furniture built for the house.

But changes were made. When the National Trust acquired the house in 2003, they decided to open it to the public while restoration was going on.

A Visit to The Red House offers a rare opportunity to see how a historic house, its original features -- including, in this case, rare examples of William Morris wallpapers and fabrics -- are uncovered and restored.
