For a lot of people, the Lake District means Wordsworth's famous poem about the daffodils. But this is a region with great variety and dramatic landscapes. Yes, there are gentle, daffodil covered hills, but there is also the darkly spooky, brooding mountainscape of Wast Water.
The Kirkstone Pass, featured in this gallery, is the highest road pass in the Lake District and carries visitors from the polite Victorian resorts of Lake Windermere to Ullswater, a center for canoeing, water sports, fishing, camping and rustic vacations.
