Guide Review - The Ty'n Rhos Hotel - A Moderately Priced Country House Hotel in Wales
Staying at the Ty'n Rho is a little bit like being a house guest at a friend's very comfortable home. You wouldn't expect your friend to have round the clock entertainment or the latest in-room, high speed broadband Internet -- and neither does the Ty'n Rho.

What it offers, instead, is a quiet getaway in a particularly scenic corner of North Wales. It's not cheap, but, considering the standard, Ty'n Rhos is very reasonable for two.

The rooms, with their colorful, over stuffed chairs, big antique bedsteads and windows dressed with layers and swashes of colorful fabrics, look like they are posing for a magazine spread about traditional English Country living.

Outside, there's a garden that is landscaped for strolling and enjoying the sweeping views of countryside and farmland. And not far away, you can visit villages where Welsh is spoken as a first language, climb mountain trails in Snowdonia or visit a castle on the North Wales coast. Keep in mind, though, you will need a car to take full advantage of the setting.

Meals from land and sea

The hotel's owner, Martin James, is a chef with considerable experience of top hotels and Michelin-starred restaurants. The menu in the Garden View restaurant emphasizes local produce and locally reared meat and poultry from the nearby farms as well as fresh caught, local fish. Breakfast, included in the price, is generous enough but, if you want to splurge, the full Welsh breakfast includes Menai oysters.
