About Aberdeen:

Granite-colored Aberdeen is Scotland's third largest city. Located 130 miles northeast of Edinburgh on the North Sea, Aberdeen was a bustling fishing port before the discovery of offshore oil in the 1970s. It's still one of Britain's largest fishing harbors, as well as one of the country's ancient university towns - Aberdeen University's charter dates from the late 15th century.

Business visitors and highly paid oil workers brought London-level type prices to Aberdeen. Small as it is (population less than 300,000), Aberdeen has excellent designer and boutique shopping. Aberdeen's oil industry also supports Europe's busiest heliport, offering tourist helicopter tours alongside business and oil industry related flights.

Three Things to Do in Aberdeen:

  1. Take a walk along the Union Street, Old Aberdeen and harbor areas. Footdee (pronounced "Fittie") is a small, photogenic village of granite and painted cottages and fishing sheds north of Aberdeen harbor.
  2. Go for a pub crawl. Join sports fans around the big screens at the multi-level bar, The Illicit Still. Take in some live music, Friday - Tuesday, at The Globe Inn, a pub with rooms that has live bands weekends, open mic nights and even a Scottish folk session every Tuesday night.
  3. Tour the period rooms and costume collection of Provost Skene's House to see how locals lived from the 17th through early 19th centuries.
