'Mao: Art for The Masses' at the NEC Antiques Fair

Thursday March 20, 2008

An unusual collection of Chinese communist works of art and political memorabilia, collected by antiques dealers and Chinese specialists Peter and Susan Wain, will be a feature of the Antiques for Everyone fair, opening next week at the NEC in Birmingham.

Mao: Art for the Masses presents artifacts produced in China between 1949 to 1976, including the famous Little Red Book, collectable badges, political posters, ceramic busts, ivory carvings and lacquer plaques. Maoist slogans, buildings and artifacts have now vanished from China so this collection, demonstrating the relationship between Maoist art and the doctrine of art for the masses, is of particular interest.

Antiques of a more conventional nature, with prices from less than £50, all the way up to about £100,000, will be on offer from hundreds of dealers. Find out more about Antiques for Everyone at the NEC in Birmingham.
