The Warner Brothers Studio Tour: The Making of Harry Potter opened last March in the studios where the film interiors were shot, just north of London, and it has been a runaway success with visitors from all over the world ever since. Potter fans can walk the the actual sets, including the Great Dining Hall at Hogwarts, see the real props (and handle some of them) and learn all sorts of behind the scenes secrets. Tickets have to be purchased in advance, online and right now, tickets for school vacations, half term and Easter break are available. What a great last minute gift for the Pottermaniac on your list. Mind you, at this point, you'll have to wrap your email confirmation up in holiday ribbons because it's too late to take physical delivery of the tickets before Christmas. But hey, it's the thought that counts. And, you don't even have to book a specific date. Gift tickets allow the recipient to book the date themselves within 12 months of purchase.
Meanwhile, if you're planning a family visit to the UK this year and your brood is still playing Harry Potter games and wearing out the DVDs of all the films, think about visiting some of the film's real locations around the country. In places like the hallowed halls of Oxford University, the cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral, the windswept battlements of Alnwick Castle and the magnificent scenery of the Western Highlands you can walk in the footsteps of the boy wizard and his friends. There is plenty to see and enjoy.
