Luring Kids Into Museums Just Got a Whole Lot Easier

I can still remember being about five years old and dragging myself around museums behind my mother, who liked to read every single sign and caption on every single exhibit and display. Back then, I thought museums were a real drag. But, in the absence of all of the electronic diversions available today, I finally succumbed to the lure of art museums, natural history museums and so on.

Nowadays, no self-respecting kid goes anywhere without at least some sort of electronic game in his or her pocket. So making museums relevant and fun for today's generation of novice museum goers is harder than ever. That's why I was happy to review a few new - and free - iPhone apps that bring a whole new element of fun and games into museum going. Some are interactive quiz trails with prizes at the end, others are tours with lots of bells and whistles, and still others, like the East Coast Time Line from the National Railway Museum, pictured here, let you enter right into the spirit of the place. I created my own railway poster using the app. That's my own picture inside their frame.
