The British Film Institute's 56th London Film Festival, runs from October 10 to 21, in theaters all over the city. Film buffs can catch up with new studio, independent and documentary movies as well as take part in face to face encounters with producers, directors and actors.
Tim Burton's 3D stop-motion animation Frankenweenie opens the festival on October 10. Mike Newell's new adaptation Dickens' Great Expectations with Ralph Fiennes as Magwitch and Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham is the gala festival closing event.Lucky you if you've already booked either one, as they are both sold out, I'm afraid. But tickets to some of the red carpet gala premieres are still available and there are dozens of other screenings, master classes, lectures and interviews available.
If you are heading for the festival, there's no better time to pick up a copy of Movie London: Exploring the City Film-by-Film a very entertaining guide to London movie locations by Tony Reeves.
