Is that your secret theme song? Do you secretly wish you could shovel heaps of coal into a steam engine, feel the blast of heat from its boiler and, eventually, work your way up to train driver. Then you need to head for the West Midlands, where the hot, sweaty, manly pursuit of operating steam trains is a serious pastime for hardworking volunteers. On the other hand, if you just want to sit in a plush vintage dining car and have a bang up dinner, at least one of the area's heritage railways can fix that for you too. Have a look.
