All over Europe, traditional Christmas markets brighten the early winter dusks this month and next. The UK is no exception and my list of Christmas Markets around the country keeps getting longer.
Some are Victorian with local townspeople dressing up in Dickensian costumes and traditional Victorian street performers entertaining the crowds. Some are inspired by German markets and a few are even partnered with Frankfurt, bringing over real German stalls where shoppers enjoy the twinkling lights, steaming crocks of spicy mulled wine, sizzling sausages and chestnuts, music, crafts, baked goods and sweets. In Beverly, which holds a one day festival, Santa rides through the town drawn by real reindeer.
The Best Christmas Markets in UK are often held in the shadow of Medieval cathedrals and castles. And they go on from mid November through December -to within a day or two of Christmas. Sounds like a much better option for unusual Christmas gifts than fighting the mobs on Black Friday.
