The previews have started and people are pouring into Edinburgh for the annual August fiesta of the Edinburgh Fringe, officially launched this Friday, August 7.

The Cavalcade

Because of road works on Princes Street, the spectacular celebratory parade, the Edinburgh Cavalcade, has been moved to Holyrood Park. But the parade - from 2 p.m. Sunday, August 9 - goes on, running along Queen's Drive between the Holyrood Park Entrance and the Meadowbank Terrace Entrance, near Meadowbank Stadium.

Never a shy affair, this year's Cavalcade will be led off by 150 motorbikes and will feature the entire cast of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, plus floats and marchers from Fringe and community groups. More entertainment and activities will take place on the Parade Ground between Holyrood Palace and Meadowbank between noon and 4 p.m.

Rough Guide Voters Pick Edinburgh

Did you know that readers of the Rough Guide series, picked the Edinburgh Festival as the UK's number one tourist experience? The festival topped a list of 25 five tourist experiences around the UK and Ireland (Glastonbury was last!). The editors attributed Edinburgh's appeal to, "Over half-a-dozen separate festivals taking place simultaneously, some 1500 different shows a day, across 200 different venues. Not to mention the street acts, the buskers, the bizarrely dressed leafleters and the simple fascination to be had just watching it all swirl around you."

So, here we go. Have a great time at Edinburgh!
