Cardiff is planning a big, city center family friendly New Year's Eve celebration. From about 6 p.m. onward, when the gates around Cardiff Castle open, a host of activities are planned all the way up to the magic hour. And this year, for the first time, the castle's cafe will be open for teas, coffees, drinks - and a hog roast! - before the fireworks. Free events include:

  • Family fire show, "Tiger, Tiger" - The show, produced by External Combustion includes light puppetry, fire, music, video and fireworks.
  • Free live music stage from 7:30p.m. to 12:30a.m. Performers range from a ska band, Funhouse, and Welsh folkloric company Taran to X-Factor contestant Andy Abraham.
A ticketed, special midnight skate at Cardiff's Winter Wonderland is also part of the fun. To book, ring +44 (0)29 2023 0130.

Free buses, from 8p.m. to 2:30a.m. will ferry celebrants in and out of the city center. Visit their website for information on New Year's Eve bus routes and schedules.
