Now what can love in the Lake District possibly have to do with Hillary Clinton, I hear you ask. Well, if you can leave politics aside for just a moment consider this. Did you know that former President Bill Clinton proposed to Hillary in the Lake District?

According to his autobiography My Life Clinton was so struck by the beauty and romance of the Lakes, during his student days, that he proposed to his future wife Hillary on the banks of Ennerdale Water in the Western Lake District.

While studying at Oxford, Clinton took Hillary on a tour of England, ending up in the Lake District, which he had not seen before. "It's beautiful and romantic there in late spring," he writes. "One evening at sunset on the shore of Ennerdale I asked Hillary to marry me. I couldn't believe I'd done it. Neither could she."

Ever the strong minded lady, our Hills made him wait for two years before accepting the proposal. You go girl.
