The Channel Islands - Independent British States With a French Accent

They call them the British Channel Islands, but Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark have their own governments, a legal system that is more French than British and such a confusing relationship with each other, with the UK and with the EU that even many British people don't quite understand it. One of them, Sark, is a feudal state - but a vote in 2006 will make it Europe's newest democracy this year.

That doesn't stop anyone from visiting these lovely islands with their mild climates, warm sandy beaches, beautiful harbors and villages.
