Ringo Starr To Launch Liverpool as European Capital of Culture '08

Ringo Starr will lead a cast that includes Dave Stewart and The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, in a one-off performance of "Liverpool - The Musical", on January 12, officially opening the new Liverpool Arena and launching Liverpool's year as European Capital of Culture 2008. Later in the year, Sir Paul McCartney returns to his hometown for the Liverpool Sound Concert, celebrating the city's global status as a world capital of music.

Both are among the eight gala European Capital of Culture events scheduled throughout 2008. The right to buy tickets for all the events will be awarded by ballot of those who have registered between today and October 7.
